Why the same layover time isn't equally safe everywhere

Airline-published minimum connection times vary a lot by airport — and real-world margin for error varies even more. Efficient hubs like Amsterdam and Singapore are built for fast transfers, while airports like Sydney and Tokyo Haneda physically separate domestic and international terminals, adding real transfer time that a simple "minutes between flights" number doesn't capture.

International connections almost always need more buffer than domestic ones, since they typically involve clearing immigration, collecting and re-checking bags, and passing through security again.
