Worth getting a card even for a short trip?

In most cities with a dedicated transit card — Tokyo's Suica, London's Oyster, Hong Kong's Octopus — it's worth picking one up even for just a couple of days, since it's faster than buying paper tickets and often cheaper per ride too. Some cities have moved past cards entirely and let you simply tap a contactless bank card or phone at the gate.

In destinations with no dedicated card, don't force it — a ride-hailing app, rental car, or a bit of cash for local buses and taxis is genuinely the standard way locals and visitors alike get around.
