Why "visa-free" doesn't always mean no paperwork

Many countries that don't require a traditional visa still require an advance electronic authorization before you fly — Europe's Schengen area (ETIAS), the UK (UK ETA), Australia (ETA), New Zealand (NZeTA), and South Korea (K-ETA) all work this way. Skipping this step can mean being denied boarding, even with a valid passport.

Separately, most countries expect your passport to stay valid well beyond your trip — commonly 3 months past departure for Schengen countries, and 6 months for most others. Airlines often check this at check-in, so it's worth confirming before you book.
